Yarraville Community Centre (YCC) was established 33 years ago when the local primary school relocated to a new building.
The YCC is an incorporated not-for-profit organisation, is registered as a charitable institution under Australian Taxation Law and managed by an annually elected Committee of Management comprised of members who use the Centre or live or work in the area.

We provide childcare for over 100 families a week, with an additional 50 children on the wait list for a place in the occasional care program and 7.5 hours of a three year old activity group. Registered with the Department of Human Services for occasional care, 30 childcare places are available at the YCC’s Blackwood St site.

ESSENTIAL:

1. Demonstrated ability to work within a childcare centre or recent childcare employment.
2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff, parents/guardians, students & volunteers
3. Ability to implement a child focused, age appropriate program.
4. Ability to interact effectively with children and a demonstrated capacity to implement positive behaviour management strategies.

5. Provide a standard of care which is in accordance with Children’s Services Regulations 1998, Children’s Services Act 1996

1. Demonstrated understanding of child development, and experience working with Children 0 - 5 years.
2. Demonstrate capacity to respond physically, emotionally and verbally to children in an appropriate manner.
3. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.


Mandatory:

1. Current First Aid Certificate
2. Working with Children Check
3. Certificate 111 in Childcare

SCHEDULE OF DUTIES:

Assist with the operation of the child care service by:-
· Reading and implementing OCC & Neighbourhood Houses’ Policies and Procedures
· Liaising with OCC Coordinator and other staff to achieve proactive quality improvement and in regards to program planning, policies and procedures.
· Ensure a safe, caring and stimulating environment exists for all children, and that the health, safety and well being of each child are a priority.
· To actively participate in all children’s routines and activities throughout the day and ensure the room routine/program is being implemented.
· Provide a standard of care which is in accordance with Children’s Services Regulations 1998, Children’s Services Act 1996 and National Accreditation Standards.
· To understand and meet the needs of children who are from Non-English speaking languages.
· Shared role in participating in the routine duties, which involve preparation, organisation and room management to ensure a safe, clean environment.
· Settle the children in a sensitive manner, providing individual attention within a calm group setting.
· Be aware of a child's individual needs and respond in a caring manner.
· Share in the general cleaning and maintenance duties required of all staff and attend staff development and cleaning days.
· Foster positive staff relationships and promote a supportive working environment.
· Contribute to staff meetings and information sharing sessions.
· Reporting suspected child abuse to Childcare Coordinator.
· Liaise with the Coordinator to ensure continuity of the room.

Provide quality care by:-
· Constantly interacting with children in a positive manner whilst treating each child as an individual and responding to their needs accordingly.
· Being pro-active in providing a safe, non- threatening environment.
· Promotion of age appropriate activities which support the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child. .
· Observing children's individual needs and behaviours on an ongoing basis.
· Ensuring a comfortable, inviting, stimulating, caring atmosphere is maintained.
· Promoting children's understanding and acceptance of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as gender and physical ability different from their own.
· Using positive techniques of guidance, redirection and reinforcement with children to assist them to manage their behaviours and the behaviours of others.
· Modelling routines to ensure smooth transitions from one activity to another.
· Assisting in preparation and maintenance of resources to provide a range of age appropriate learning experiences.

Provide appropriate physical care by:-
· Fostering good nutritional values and a calm environment at mealtime.
· Overseeing menu/nutrition planning and adhering to food hygiene practices.
· Ensuring children maintain a reasonable standard of personal hygiene.
· Changing nappies etc as required, according to centre procedures.
· Contributing to centre tidiness/cleanliness as part of the daily routine.
· Ensuring children are calm and purposeful at transition times.
· Responding to illness, accidents and emergencies according to the OCC policy guidelines.
· Ensuring the playground is checked prior to use on every occasion for noxious/dangerous/inappropriate items.
· Following Neighbourhood House policies and procedures to prevent injury.

Assist in the management of the smooth running of the centre by:-

· Maintaining regular attendance and informing the Manager as soon as possible of illness so that casual staff can be employed.
· Demonstrating confidentiality, as outlined in Centre’s policies.
· Supporting other members of staff by accepting and giving advice and being open to new ideas.
· Contributing to the maintenance of good staff relations, by sharing the workload equally.
· Conducting other projects/duties as required by the Childcare Coordinator, and Manager.
